Georgia News from the ICD-USA 5th District

Leon Aronson, 5th District Regent, was named an outstanding Georgia Citizen by Governor Roy Barnes. Leon recently spearheaded a successful citizens lobby to strengthen environmental preservation of the Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.

Ronnie Goldstein received an Outstanding Emory Alumnus Award at the Hinman Dental Clinic.

Richard A Smith is chairing a task force to create a webpage for ICD International with an online roster.

David Myers is retiring this year as Dean of the MCG School of Dentistry. Instead of retirement gifts, he is asking for contributions to the David R. Myers Dental Student Endowment Fund. Jim Hall has been elected to serve on the board of ADA Business Enterprises, Inc. ADABEI is composed of a publishing division, business division, and electronic commerce division. He says "This is an exciting board to serve on because its composition is varied including dentists and business people."

D.T. Walton has been awarded Lifetime Membership in the National Dental Association.

Charlie Norwood is continuing his fight for Patients Rights Legislation in the US House.

Steve Holcomb was appointed to the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations. It is a five year appointment to the commission that is composed of 3 commissioners from the ADA, 3 from the ADEA and 6 from the AADE. One of the primary functions is test construction and development. He attended his first meeting of the Joint Commission on March 20 and 21st in Chicago, which was preceded by a presentation that he made at the Mid-Winter meeting of the AADE on Regional Examination Format. He presented that same program at the Chicago Dental Society Meeting in February.

Mike Rainwater is serving as GDA President 2000-1, and he has been elected to serve as Chair of the ADA Council on Dental Practice for a year begining October 2001.
