Words From the President

  BOT REPORT
                                           April 1, 2006

-       The ADA Workforce Taskforce is still looking at an expanded dental workforce team (expanded duty assistants, expanded duty hygienists, and other newly created positions) in response to access to care issues.  Concern is being voiced as to whether this model will actually improve access to care and also about some of the duties auxiliaries will perform.
-       Mini Medical Clinics are popping up in retail outlets such as grocery stores and drugstores.  A CVS pharmacy in Minnesota. has “Minute Clinic” with the slogan “You’re sick  We’re quick.”  These facilities do not have to have a physician onsite.  They are staffed by nurse practitioners or similarly educated individuals.
-       Dr. Duval reported on fluoride varnish for high risk children ages 1-4.
-       Remember to register early for the ADA meeting in Las Vegas as it will sell out early.
-       If you have not contributed to GADPAC this year, please do so.

                                                         Respectfully submitted,
                                                         Deena Holliman Smith

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Thanks to all the CDDS members who attended our LAW Day on March 22nd.Once again we had the highest percentage of members participate for the third year in a row!

Now for the serious stuff. This is an election year and everyone is up for re-election.Our GADPAC funds are lower than they need to be and lower than they should be.
The CDDS has a large percentage of members who have not contributed to the PAC for 2006. I urge each of you to please reconsider this contribution. It is the most important money you can invest not in your Association but in your Profession.I could write on and on the examples of political victory our Association has had in the past but you know those.Every year there will be battles and issues that can affect how you might practice dentistry. Some of these you may not like. Please send in your contribution so our Profession can remain politically
strong with our legislators. If you have any questions call me at {478}453-8666 {O} or {478}932-0131{H}.--Jay Harrington
